Famous. Iconic. Gruelling
-
The flat tarmac roads and long straights, ideal for a PB.
-
The course is made up of several long out and backs which I found quite challenging mentally, especially the last 10km.
Save some energy for the cobblestones for the last mile! Despite being 1 March the day was quite humid and more electrolytes were required. The on course drink Picari Sweat was tasty.

Star ⭐️ chasers! I got my Abbotts 6 Star at Tokyo which made it extra special.
Japan is an amazing place to visit and well worth building a holiday into the marathon trip.
-
Try and arrive a few days early to reduce the jet lag.
The expo is very busy with lots of queues (go early).
Practice your racing turns as there are many on the course and can take more energy than they should.

There are cut offs at Tokyo and wouldn't recommend as a first marathon. The atmosphere is incredible and well worth the trip.
My race didn't go as well as expected but the atmosphere and incredible city absolutely made up for it - would go back in a heartbeat.
